Acclaimed pianist Longendyke to premiere student compositions at Rosch concert

New works by eight SUNY Fredonia student composers will be premiered by pianist Clare Longendyke at a concert that serves as the signature event of a year-long creative entrepreneurship residency with the ETHOS New Music Society at Rosch Recital Hall Saturday, March 26 at 8 p.m.

The event is free and open to the public.

Indianapolis-based Dr. Longendyke is known for his dazzling musicianship and colorful performances that delight audiences, and is critically acclaimed for his artistic ferocity that captivates and amazes audiences.

Graduate students whose works will be performed by Longendyke include:

  • Olivia Gwise, MM Candidate in Music Composition, BA in Music at SUNY Fredonia, Berkeley, CA;
  • Connor Swaenepoel, candidate for the MM in Music Composition, BM in Music Composition and BM in Music Performance (tuba) at SUNY Fredonia in Lake View;
  • Kyle Youmans, MM Candidate in Music Composition at SUNY Fredonia, BM at Westminster College, Sebring, Ohio.

Undergraduates whose works will be performed by Longendyke include:

  • Timothy J. Bartoldus, sophomore, music composition major, Rockville Center;
  • Nicholas Cristoforo, freshman, music composition, from Patchogue;
  • Wolfgang Scheitinger, junior, music performance and music composition, from West Orange, NJ
  • Matt Slazik, senior, music composition, of Tully;
  • Julienne Tsang, Jr., Major in Music Composition and Music Entrepreneurship, Minor in Accounting, from Corning;

A sought-after soloist, Longendyke gives over 50 concerts a year in North America and Europe and has, over the past decade, premiered over 150 new compositions and performed the music of some of today’s most exciting composers. . She holds a Ph.D. and M.A. from Indiana University’s Jacobs School of Music and is passionate about helping young creators develop their musical skills and become ambassadors for classical and contemporary music.

Student compositions will be premiered alongside works by French composer Claude Debussy and acclaimed living composers Augusta Read Thomas and Amy Williams, among others.
