“Attack” collection day 1 at the box office: was John Abraham-star able to record good figures despite the “RRR” storm?

The latest film by actor John Abraham Attack hit screens on April 1 to the delight of the action star’s hardcore fans. The film garnered decent attention ahead of its release due to its intriguing premise, which revolves around the concept of a “super-soldier”, and impressive production values. So did these factors help him post good numbers on opening day? Here is our detailed report

Collection day 1

Attack open to fair domestic box office response despite competition from SS Rajamouli RRR, which remains the mainstream pick in its second week. Its Day 1 net inflow is expected to be between Rs 3 crore and Rs 7 crore, according to initial estimates.

John’s track record

John is going through a tough phase on the front as his last three outings — Pagalpanti, Bombay Sagaand Satyameva Jayate 2 — underperformed at the box office. The lackluster response to the Milap Zaveri-directed film, in particular, shocked fans as it was a sequel to the 2018 hit. Satyameva Jayate. Satyameva Jayate 2 raised Rs 3.60 crore on day one and ultimately failed to stand up to Salman Khan antim.

deep dive

Attack did decent business in key urban markets such as Mumbai and the National Capital Region (NCR). However, this did not have the desired impact in small towns. The general feeling is that the decision to release the film just a week after RRR opposed it. The period drama has become a force to be reckoned with in Hindi as it stars Ajay Devgn in a key role. Its prospects were also affected by the fact that it was led by Lakshaya Anand, a rank newcomer.

The path to follow…

Attack received mixed reviews with critics praising the concept and John’s performance but criticizing the poor script. Word of mouth is mixed, which may affect its performance in the coming days. He’s also likely to face competition from Hollywood biggie Morbius, who is based on a popular Marvel character.

What’s next for John?

With Attack in theaters, John is ready to turn his attention to Return of Villain Eks, a “spiritual sequel” to 2014’s sleeper hit Ek naughty. The action thriller has an impressive cast which includes Disha Patani, Arjun Kapoor, Tara Sutaria. John will be seen as the antagonist of Shah Rukh Khan Pathanwhich will hit screens next January.
