Shamshera, which marked Ranbir Kapoor’s return to the big screen after a hiatus, was expected to take the box office by storm. Ultimately, the film struggled to attract audiences to theaters. Having had a less than favorable opening day, the film saw no improvement on its second day.
According to Box Office India, Shamshera looks just around Rs. 10 – 10.25 crore on day two. Having made an opening of Rs. 10.25 crores in the country, its early Saturday figures have not improved since day one. As things stand, it seems difficult for manufacturers to recoup the announced budget of around Rs. 150 crores.
The report suggests numbers at multiplexes haven’t really improved, while mass belt collection hasn’t dipped. With less than favorable reviews and disappointed fan reactions, the film will need to see massive growth on Sunday to finish with a strong first weekend.
“My extra star for Shamshera is only for Ranbir Kapoor, who has once again proven why he is one of the best actors we have in the country. He even brings the utmost conviction as tears well up in his eyes. as Balli and also when he has to smile as Shamshera,” read the film’s review on OTTplay.
Directed by Karan Malhotra, Shamshera also stars Vaani Kapoor and Sanjay Dutt in significant roles, with the latter playing the film’s main antagonist. The film is produced by Aditya Chopra under the banner of Yash Raj Films.
Shamshera, set in the late 1800s, is now playing in theaters nationwide and is also available in IMAX.
