South Shore Arts Presents ‘Nature Lovers’ Exhibit | visual arts

Art lovers who also love nature will enjoy the latest exhibition hosted at South Shore Arts in Munster.

‘Nature Lovers’ continues until August 27 at South Shore Arts at the Munster Center for Visual and Performing Arts, 1040 Ridge Road, Munster.

“It’s a perfect exhibition for the summer,” said Brandon Johnson, co-ordinator of the South Shore Arts gallery in Munster. The subject of nature, he added, fits perfectly into the season. “It’s a very family-friendly show and it’s an enjoyable show through and through,” he added.

“Nature Lovers” was curated by Linda Dorman and Tom Torluemke of the Dorman + Torluemke team. Johnson said the duo currently work as guest curators at South Shore Arts. They will be holding shows in Munster and Hammond at No 9 Substation.

Johnson said there were nine artists featured in the exhibit, which is themed “We are nature.” Featured artists are Em’rynn Artunian, Zbigniew Bzdak, Peggy Macnamara, Casey Roberts, William Nichols, Corey Hagelberg, Joanne Aono, Tony Fitzpatrick and Catherine Schwalbe.

Johnson pointed out that Peggy Macnamara’s watercolors will be featured. Macnamara is artist-in-residence at the Field Museum in Chicago.

“I hope people get a greater appreciation for nature (from looking at this exhibit),” Johnson said. “And I hope they see it in a different way than they’ve seen before.”

In addition to the exhibition, some programs are programmed around the theme of nature. Visit to learn more about the programs.
