Spring Opera: “Volpone” – UNCSA

Emerging Artist Series

“Volpone” (“The Fox”), 2004, is a brilliant, biting comedy inspired by Ben Jonson’s classic play of the same name.

Wealthy Volpone feigns fatal illness in order to trick a group of his so-called “friends” into believing that each of them will inherit his fortune. Their efforts in the name of gluttony make for a humorous evening. guest conductor
John McKeever, who earned a BM in double bass and an MM in orchestral conducting from UNCSA, will conduct the orchestra. Guest artist summer eve, whose productions have been called “ingenious” and “imaginative” by Opera News, will direct. “Volpone” is sung in English, with music by John Musto and book by Mark Campbell.
