Veteran chef, educator appointed to lead culinary and hospitality arts program at Guilford Technical Community College

JAMESTOWN, NC (September 7, 2022) Tim O’Donnell, a chef who is a kitchen and classroom veteran, has been named Program Director, Culinary Arts and Hospitality at Guilford Technical Community College.

In his new position, O’Donnell will be responsible for program development and management, budget development and management, maintenance of programmatic accreditation and external partnerships, and operational oversight of faculty and staff at full-time and part-time in the department. A full-time faculty member, O’Donnell will also have teaching responsibilities.

“I am very excited to join the GTCC Culinary Arts and Hospitality Program. The educators I will be working with have long been committed to making the GTCC Culinary Arts and Hospitality Program one of the best of the region. I look forward to continuing this tradition of excellence,” said O’Donnell.

O’Donnell, who holds an MBA from Purdue University and a Bachelor of Science in Culinary Arts from Johnson & Wales University, was director of the Academy of Culinary Arts and Hospitality Management at the Atlantic Cape Community College in Mays Landing, New Jersey, before coming to GTCC. He has spent the past 24 years in higher education either leading university hospitality and culinary arts programs or as an instructor in university hospitality and culinary arts courses.

O’Donnell, a Florida native, started working in Miami-area restaurants when he was 13 and worked his way up, including cooking work aboard ships that ferried crews to flats. -Oil forms off the coast of Louisiana. He has been an executive chef for over 20 years and has owned and operated three small resorts and restaurants in the Bahamas. He has also been a chef in Thailand, Singapore and Switzerland.
