After a decent opening in the Hindi belt on day one, Kiccha Sudeep’s action drama Vikrant Rona experienced a major drop in its collection at the box office on Friday. The film faced competition from Bollywood release this week, Ek Villain Returns, starring actors Arjun Kapoor, John Abraham, Disha Patani and Tara Sutaria.
According to a report by Pinkvilla, Vikrant Rona earned Rs 1 crore on Thursday, and on Friday his collection dropped by 25% in the Hindi belt. It fetched Rs 75 lakhs on Friday, which is close to Kamal Haasan’s Vikram which fetched Rs 70 lakhs on its second day in North India. The drop in Vikrant Rona’s second day numbers makes his future in the northern belt look grim. The Hindi version of the film was presented by Salman Khan.
This drop in box office numbers may also be due to the mostly negative reviews the film received from film critics. Indian Express film critic Shubhra Gupta said the film was more “confusing” than “entertaining”. In her 1.5-star review of the film, she wrote, “This Kiccha Sudeep star’s convoluted plot and stilted dialogue spoil the experience. The humor is forced. Out of the blue, Jacqueline Fernandez comes in for a feature number in which her athletic bounce leaves nothing to the imagination.
Vikrant Rona was directed by Anup Bhandari and also stars Jacqueline Fernandez, Nirup Bhandari and Neetha Ashok. It was released in several languages including Kannada, Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam, Hindi, and international languages such as English, Arabic, German, Russian and Mandarin.
